tese pics shows that this bomb can b fitted with various types of warheads like cluster bomblets, fragmented bomblets, air explosion varient, anti tank varient, concrete piercing etc

it also proves that it is more flexible when comes to employ various types of explosives for various tasks than JDAM

r all of mig27 have been upgraded or just 40

Prasun K Sengupta said...

Of the 210 MiG-27Ms acquired for the IAF, only 40 are being upgraded with a new navigation/attack system, although another 40 could well be upgraded in future, depending on the availability of finances. Earlier plans for re-engining the upgraded MiG-27Ms with AL-31F turbofans have now been dropped.

how does it compare to JDAM

Prasun K Sengupta said...

It is more capable than JDAM. More like a JSOW.

prasun too much brocure-baazi. give us some stories. not weapons specs. this is getting intensely boring.

The ARDE is reportedly developing add-on glide/GPS-based precision navigation kits for 500lb and 1,000lb dumb bombs, based on similar technologies developed earlier for GPS-based precision air-drops of cargo. But developing all such weapons does not make sense if the weapons user does not have the capability to provide precise GPS-based navigation coordinates from its own indigenous regional constellation of GPS navigation satellites. Once such a constellation (the Gagan) is deployed by ISRO, only then will India be able to effectively employ GPS-based precision-guided munitions.
